Community Connect

Family Connections

Qualicum Manor actively supports communication and collaboration between families, residents and us in many ways. One formal and documented method is through family and resident councils. At Qualicum Manor we call this group ’Community Connect’

What is a family and resident council?

A Resident and/or Family Council is a group of persons who either live in a long-term care (LTC) home, their families, and/or the residents’ representative, who meet regularly to maintain and enhance the quality of life of residents in LTC. Councils exist to engage the resident community and to improve the experiences of all residents, by providing their insights and advice and represent the collective interests of residents

One of the key roles that a Resident and/or Family Council can play is to promote improved communication and collaboration between residents, family members, LTC staff, and management. This may involve working collaboratively on projects that enrich the lives of residents, making recommendations to decision makers, and communicating common concerns and ideas for improvements.

Our meetings

  • At Qualicum Manor we meet about 3 times per year as a group. We celebrate our successes, identify opportunities and build relationships based on safety, diversity and inclusion.
  • Our meetings are minuted and these minutes are sent to each family by email. They are also available on the board in the main corridor. A copy can be printed and given to you at any time.
  • Agendas are set collaboratively so if you have some ideas that would like to be heard, come along.
  • We advertise the meetings well in advance.
